How are you doing? In this strange and unusual time, I’ve been experiencing a whole range of emotions each day. It was odd to be enjoying time on an international vacation amidst everything that was starting to happen directly in my hometown, workplace, and country due to COVID-19. It was nerve-wracking to come back home in the throes of a growing pandemic, not knowing what to expect.
I’m hopeful we’ll get through this and encourage everyone to continue to stay positive and practice healthy habits to protect yourself, your loved ones, and strangers. Wash your hands, stay at home, practice social distancing if you must go out, but above all, stay hopeful.
Finding the good in this time of uncertainty and fear may benefit us all in the end. I’m starting to think that maybe a time of introspection and a conscious pause from life as we know it will prove to be a positive motivation for a much needed shift in society.
Perhaps we’re all learning how to slow down and to pay better attention to ourselves and those around us. I think we’re being reminded that we need to take better care of our bodies and minds, to prioritize family and friends, to do better for those in need, and to appreciate all that we have in our lives.
I’m working from home until further notice, and the state of Virginia has issued a “shelter-in-place” order until June. Besides giving myself “me” time to exercise and do things that spark joy (making art, reading, sewing, listening to music and podcasts), I’ve been virtually checking in on friends and family, hugging my puppy often (and taking her on long walks), binging shows with my husband, and working on some blog posts when I can.
It feels a bit odd to continue talking about “normal” things like makeup, skincare, and fashion. Yet I’ve found myself looking for things that give me some sense of joyful normalcy and a necessary break when the real world just feel a bit overbearing. I’ve felt that I have to justify continuing blog posts with this in mind in light of everything that is happening.
So here’s to seeking out a bit of positive space for yourself. Take care of yourself, stay informed, practice healthy habits, reach out to loved ones, but also remember that this too shall pass.
I believe we will get through this and come out of it stronger, healthier, and more compassionate than ever.
Stay well friends, we’ve got this!
