Ursa Major: Skincare to Share

I’d be lying if I said converting my family and friends to organic and natural skincare has been an easy task. Everyone has their misconceptions and protests but in all honesty, it’s always easier for me to convince the ladies in my life of cleaner, greener skincare habits. The men in my life, well let’s just say they’re not really into it. And maybe that’s also due to men not having a very complex skincare routine or rather, no routine at all. My mission was to find unique and clean skincare products catering towards men that my fiance might be willing to try, but it proved harder than I thought. That is, until I was introduced to the ultra-cool, simplistic, natural and organic unisex skincare brand, Ursa Major.

Ursa Major is a beautifully crafted natural skincare brand featuring simple, effective unisex products. Based in Vermont, the brand’s simplistic, outdoorsy-inspired logo and design initially caught my eye and everyone I showed Ursa Major products to were also intrigued by the unique packaging.

Besides the eye-catching design, Ursa Major’s “super natural” formulas were what really caught hold of my heart. Ursa Major uses the highest-grade natural ingredients in their products and wherever possible, source from family-owned, sustainable growers. Ursa Major products are free of artificial fragrances or colors, MEA, DEA or TEA, parabens, phthalates, PEG compounds, sulfates, silicones, or any other petrochemicals.

The effortless, rugged-inspired, unisex personality of the brand brings everything back to just plain old, effective skincare, regardless of if you’re a man or a woman. This is skincare we can all unabashedly, enthusiastically share.

Ursa Major sent me a sample kit and travel-size Fortifying Face balm to try. I thought it’d be the perfect opportunity to test with my fiance who was doubtful, but willing to give me his perspective. Testing out small skincare samples among two adults was not an ideal situation, but sharing is caring, right?

Our his and hers thoughts below:
Fantastic Face Wash: His- Smells really nice and fresh, my face feels very clean and the foaming aspect is refreshing. Hers– This has a unique gel consistency that is gentle, foams, and washes off easily. I love the fresh, citrus-y scent and that the natural formula is lightweight yet effectively cleanses my face. Even after washing this product off, a hydrating layer remains on the skin and doesn’t case my face to feel dry or irritated. This leaves my skin feeling refreshed and clean. $28, 8oz full size. (Face Wash ingredients are 99.5% natural, 51% organic with key actives: aloe, coconut-derived surfactants, white tea, sugar cane, lemon, green tea.)

Fortifying Face Balm: His- The gel-formula is unlike any other creams I’ve tried before, it took a little getting used to. I don’t really like the texture but it’s a very moisturizing and lightweight product that isn’t greasy. Overall, it gets the job done and keeps my skin from being dry. Hers- I was also intrigued by the gel-consistency of this balm and though I liked how moisturizing and hydrating it was, I’m not a fan of the texture. I found that when I apply this balm, I let it sit on my face for a few minutes to dry as it can feel quite “wet”. This product is nice and lightweight especially during warm weather. Like all the other Ursa Major products, the scent of the Face Balm is very fresh and unisex-smelling, you can definitely sense the citrus and lavender in this product.

Essential Face Wipes: His- Definitely a nice product to use post-gym workout and in the summer! Especially if you’re sweaty and smelly, this is a refreshing and wipe to give a quick clean. I like that it’s gentle and doesn’t really have a scent to it. I’d definitely use more of these especially while traveling or out in the heat. Hers- These individually wrapped bamboo face wipes are great for on-the-go use or for travel. They are really convenient to keep in your bag. The soothing, gentle, natural formula is great for freshening up or as an emergency makeup remover. Formulated with key actives such as aloe, witch hazel, willow bark extract, rosemary, apple, green tea, and birch sap these wipes not only give you an instant refresh and cleanse but also provide nourishing effects. (I say emergency makeup remover because it’s always best use a cleanser rather than face wipes but desperate times may call for desperate measures!)

Stellar Shave Cream: My fiance normally uses an electronic razor in which shaving cream isn’t necessary but he did try the formula of this cream just because I asked him to. His- Nice, lightweight and very creamy consistency. So was my dude convinced to ramp up his natural/organic skincare routine? Maybe. He normally doesn’t use many skincare products to begin with (just moisturizer daily if anything) but he really enjoyed (maybe even enthusiastically?) using Ursa Major products. He appreciates the meaningfulness and healthier formulations behind Ursa Major but I definitely think I’d have to keep putting the products in front of him to motivate him to use them.

I’d love to continue exploring skincare like Ursa Major that I could easily share with my fiance. I love that Ursa Major appeals to both men and women and efficacy of their natural/organic formulas.
