My husband is a simple guy. Like most men, he doesn’t have much of a skincare routine to speak of and if he does use any products, he likes products that are easy, fast-acting, and no-frills. This is why I’m always on the lookout for effective, clean skincare alternatives that he would actually use. Land & Lore is a new all-natural skincare brand for men that features a simple, yet effective line of made in the USA products.
Land & Lore was founded by Mark Hasebroock, an entrepreneur who has been involved with managing and investing in many well-known companies such as Summersalt, Amify, Hayneedle. He now runs Dundee Venture Capital, which provides seed funding to startups across the middle 2/3 of the United States. Hasebroock created Land & Lore to help men find simple skincare products with clean, effective ingredients.
The brand features six simple skincare products, “made with ingredients derived from the land paired with the power of modern technology.” The collection includes affordable necessities aimed at simplifying men’s skincare, yet the brand assures everyone and anyone can benefit from their products. Land & Lore also partners with the Arbor Day Foundation to plant a tree for every product bought.
My husband agreed to test out the brand’s Basic Kit, which provides two essential products: a cleanser and moisturizer. I was curious to hear his thoughts and eager at the opportunity to have him expand his daily skincare practice. I tested the products out too so I could also experience them, especially as my husband wasn’t totally sure how to express his thoughts for a skincare product review.
Cleanser: This product utilizes active peptide complex and amino acids to cleanse and restore skin, and freshens, clears, hydrates thanks to organic jojoba, borage, and olive oils. The texture is a lightweight gel, and features a pleasant earthy and fresh scent that is masculine, but can definitely be unisex.
My husband does not regularly use a cleanser, but he said he enjoyed using this product daily. Maybe this will encourage him to use cleansers now? His thoughts: “It definitely does it’s job to cleanse and soothe my skin. It’s refreshing, hydrating, and doesn’t dry up skin, which is great. The cleanser also suds up nicely and smells nice. Very easy and quick to use.”
The price point also can’t be beat: $22 for 8oz in a hefty glass bottle with a convenient pump-top.
Moisturizer: This product hydrates without clogging pores by utilizing non-comedogenic hyaluronic acid and organic jojoba oil. It also features wildcrafted green tea, vitamin E, and organic aloe to promote elasticity and smoothness. This moisturizer is creamy and lightweight, while the scent has a similar fresh and earthy scent as the cleanser, but with a teeny hint of light, floral notes.
My husband’s thoughts: “This product feels gentle and smooth on my skin. It’s easy to apply and is moisturizing. It’s not much different from the one I normally use, though I do prefer using a moisturizer that has SPF. I also like this scent, which is the same as the cleanser. It’s fresh and masculine and isn’t so herbal-smelling. It’s nice and lightweight, yet I can feel that it lasts on my skin throughout the day.”
Another great price for an essential skincare product: $20.00 for 4.0 oz.
I personally would like to know more details about Land & Lore’s ingredients, such as their actual sources, organic certifications, and the specific purposes for some ingredients. It’s a bit too vague than I am used to.
For my standards, the brand is not totally there. But for someone like my husband, who is still transitioning to healthier skincare, craves effectiveness and simplicity, and is developing a routine in general, I think the brand could be a good introduction to cleaner alternatives. My husband definitely enjoyed Land & Lore products and would recommend them. He said the experience has made him more willing to broaden his daily skincare routine, as well as explore more products and brands. That’s a good result in my book!
