ILIA Beauty Silken Shadow Sticks & Pure Eyeliner

Every new release that ILIA Beauty makes tugs on my heart strings and my wallet. Of course, with their newest Fall 2015 Collection featuring eyeshadow sticks, eyeliners, liquid foundations, and makeup brushes, I couldn’t resist. I’m always drawn to eye products and while I wanted to snatch up all twelve new eye products, I restrained myself and only picked up three. I bought mine as soon as I saw Credo Beauty had them in stock. Here are my thoughts:

ILIA Silken Shadow Sticks

L to R: Age of Consent, Next To You

I was most excited about the Silken Shadow Sticks because I love the idea of portable, mess-free, cream eyeshadow. All the shades are beautiful so it was hard to choose! I settled on two very “everyday” colors, Age of Consent (“a versatile ash brown”) and Next To You (“a romantic amber rose”).

ILIA claims their Silken Shadow Sticks are gentle, silky and nourishing on the eyelid area with nourishing ingredients. “ILIA Silken Shadow Stick glides on effortlessly for a velvety wash of metallic color. The healing oils of argan, sesame and rose hip work alongside the soothing butters of shea and coconut to moisturize and protect the delicate area of the eye.”

From the two Silken Shadow Sticks I have tried, the formula is as described: silky, soft, and actually quite pigmented. I’m not sure about the other shades in the collection, but Age of Consent and Next To You are also quite shimmery. Though I wasn’t expecting anything too amazing, the formulas are not creaseless. My lids are pretty oily as it is, and  these creamy shadows didn’t stand a chance. I also tried applying an eye primer with the Silken Shadow Sticks and still noticed creasing.

Age of Consent is a lovely deep brown, perfect for a base eyeshadow or worn alone, but the stick applies unevenly and I always see chunks of color and shimmer on my eyelid. Maybe I received a defective one? Next To You is a pretty light rose shade that is more sheer against my skintone yet it applies more smoothly than Age of Consent does. Overall, I really love using these products as an easy, daily, run-and-go eyeshadow alternatives but I’m not too sure I’d buy more, especially for the price. The color variety is tempting but the lack of staying power isn’t very persuading. $28 at ILIA Beauty, Credo Beauty, The Detox Market.

ILIA Pure Eyeliner Havana Affair

More surprising was that I loved the Pure Eyeliner  more than the Shadow Sticks. Who doesn’t love a good cream eyeliner in a twist-up pencil-type packaging? I have very sensitive eyelids and sometimes eye pencils can be a bit harsh on my skin. ILIA’s Pure Eyeliner is really gentle and soft but sturdy enough to draw exact lines and creamy enough to smudge it out. I have the eyeliner in Havana Affair, a black shade with a blend of shimmery gold and I really love that this traditional color has a bit of oomph to it.

I haven’t experienced any smudging or embarrassing “raccoon-eye” effects with this eyeliner. The Pure Eyeliner stays in place all day and doesn’t irritate my eyes in the least. Even with my greasy lids, there’s no budging at all, it’s pretty amazing! I’ve only tried Havana Affair so I can’t vouch for how consistent the other colors’ formulas are but from what I’ve heard, it sounds like other people have also been happy with the formula. I wish ILIA utilized the same budge-free formula in their Shadow Sticks. Now I might just have to try more of the beautiful Pure Eyeliner colors. $24 at ILIA Beauty, Credo Beauty, The Detox Market.

I’ve actually never tried ILIA before. Love the look of the liner, with that gold shimmer in it.
