Finally, another installment of Sister Spotlight. Here are the healthier skincare and makeup products my sister, Monica has been trying out:
One Love Organics Chia Whip Foaming Cleanser: I purchased this because I finished the limited edition Apple-a-Day cleanser and the Chia Whip is a similar product from OLO’s permanent line. The only difference is that there are no claims for brightening skin and it’s more of a essential cleanser. I really like the Chia Whip cleanser because honestly I was wanting to try something different but still a cleanser from OLO because the formulas really works well with my skin. The Chia Whip is very gentle on my skin and it smells great! I was doubtful about how the Chia Whip would smell but it turns out its very refreshing and delicious smelling. I would definitely keep using and purchasing this cleanser, it’s been great for my skin. $32 for 5 fl oz. at The Detox Market.
Pai Rosehip Bioregenerate Facial Serum: This facial serum is amazing! This serum immediately improved my skin in brightening it and I could see a difference right away. I was doubtful at using this serum at first because I generally steer away from oily products due to my naturally oily-prone skin. So when Kasey suggested I try some of her Pai Rosehip oil, I immediately backed away and said “Ew, no thanks!” because I always thought facial oils would add more grease to my face. I was pleasantly surprised with how deeply moisturizing and fresh this felt on my face. This facial oil sinks in quickly and doesn’t leave my face super greasy. I was even more amazed when I’d wake up with a brighter complexion. I still prefer facial lotions but now I’m more comfortable with using facial oils or at least exploring them a bit more. I used up the rest of this serum down to the last drop! $40 for 1 oz at Spirit Beauty Lounge.
Spéciale Découverte by Dr. Jules Anti-Aging Facial Serum: My new favorite product! After I ran out of the Pai Serum I was debating between purchasing a new one (kind of on the expensive side) and trying something else out. Kasey went to the Vegan Beauty Affair and picked up an extra goody bag for me. The Dr. Jules serum was included in the bag so I tried it out and ended up really loving it. I find that it brightens my skin and reduces redness. I use it at night and in the morning after I cleanse my face and before applying moisturizer. It has a very neutral scent unlike Pai’s stronger scent which I prefer. I love that this serum is lightweight, isn’t greasy, and I can use it day and night. I’d never heard of this brand before but I’d definitely purchase it in the future. $50 for 1 oz at Spéciale Découverte
Blissoma Smooth A+ Perfecting Serum: When I first used this serum I felt it was too strong for my skin type; it’s for oily, acne, irritated, discolored skin. Even though I have those skin problems, I thought maybe it was doing too much for a daily moisturizer. I like the convenient pump packaging and the scent is very delicious, smells like rose. I think the harsh formula may have caused me to breakout more and increase redness on my skin. I kept using this serum because it was an expensive purchase and I didn’t want to waste it. This serum is creamy and lightweight but I found that it wasn’t as moisturizing the Pai or Dr. Jules serum. I still have to finish this product up but I’ve been mixing it with the Dr. Jules serum and so far it’s been okay on my skin. I don’t think I’d purchase this serum again but I’m interested in trying other Blissoma products. $25.95 for 1 oz or sample sizes at Integrity Botanicals.
Schmidt’s Deodorant Lavender + Sage (travel size): This deodorant smells AMAZING! I love lavender scents. I was a bit weary of using this because you have to apply it using your fingers which seems a bit odd. I’ve always used conventional deodorant specifically Dove deodorants. Kasey had given me this deodorant a while back but I finally started using it because I noticed that my Dove deodorant was clogging my underarm pores and was so difficult to remove. I got so frustrated and grossed out that the deodorant seemed to never come off my underarms and Kasey told me about the harmful ingredients in conventional deodorants. I thought Schmidt’s deodorant would have more of a waxy and sticky texture like most conventional deodorants, but it was actually easier to apply than I thought. I like that it doesn’t stick to my underarms and when I shower it actually comes off and doesn’t clog my pores. I’m not sure about how much it protects me from sweating because I think my underarms are still used to the heavy chemicals in conventional deodorants but I’m trying to wean off of the Dove deodorants. $9 for 2 oz (full size) at EcoDivaBeauty.
100% Pure Healthy Skin Foundation Powder in Golden Peach (sample): I think that this foundation really does give you a healthy glow and I apply it using a 100% Pure powder brush. I love that it has pretty good coverage and the color generally matches my skin. I like that this is a lightweight powder which is really ideal for summertime, it doesn’t clog my pores. I used up this sample but I really liked it so I’m considering purchasing a full size. $38 (full size) or sample sizes at Integrity Botanicals.
One Love Organics Brand New Day exfoliator (sample): I’ve only used this sample once so far and I don’t normally exfoliate as most products are too harsh on my face. I wanted to try this product out because it’s a gentler exfoliator with cleaner ingredients. I’m not a fan of the scent, but I do like how gentle the product is on my face and the refreshing results. I’m interested in continuing to try this out as I’d like to add a gentle exfoliator into my skincare routine. $39 for 1.7oz (full size) or sample sizes at Integrity Botanicals.

Such a great series! Fab picks, I hadn’t heard of Speciale decouverte before, so I’ll have to give it a look. Pai’s rosehip oil is great but one of my all-time favorite is the night-time youth serum from MUN. It’s lightweight, doesn’t feel greasy and the scent is just dreamy. xx

Thanks for the suggestion, Liz! I agree, there is just something so special about the MUN serum. I love it too but truthfully have only stocked up on samples due to the high price point. I know, I’ll eventually buy a full-size 😉 I’ll definitely have to give Monica the suggestion though! Thanks for reading 🙂
