I’ve tested quite a few natural and organic eyebrow products over the years and it’s pretty amazing to see the wide range of effective and unique brow products that are now on the green beauty market. No longer consisting only of scratchy brow pencils in a limited variety of colors, the green beauty brow sector has expanded and evolved tremendously. The Canadian natural beauty brand, Plume known for their brow and eyelash growing serum, has introduced a groundbreaking product, their Nourish & Define Brow Pomade, which I was excited to try out.
What sets the Nourish & Define Brow Pomade ($38) apart from other brow products is its ability to be characterized as a makeup product that has beneficial properties to it. The Pomade not only enhances the definition and color of brows, it also works to nourish and promote hair growth through use of 100% natural, vegan, and cruelty-free ingredients that benefit skin and hair such as organic castor oil, shea butter, olive oil, vitamin e, and candelilla and carnauba waxes. Due it’s nourishing, healthy ingredients, this product is more than makeup, it a beauty product that’s actually benefits your skin and brow hair every time you wear it. It’s available in five different shades, includes a double-ended Plume angled brow and spoolie brush.
I chose to try out Cinnamon Cashmere, the second darkest shade in the product range, since I normally find brow colors that are a deep ashy brown shade appear more natural against my skintone rather than a true, deep black. After using Cinnamon Cashmere, I’ve noticed it looks a bit warmer in tone than I was expecting, yet after a few coats, it doesn’t look too bad nor unnatural. Though I think I might have liked the Endless Midnight shade more. (EcoBrow’s Liz Dark Brunette shade matches my brows perfectly and is a tad bit darker and cooler-toned than Cinnamon Cashmere, see the photo below.)

As far as the formula itself goes, like any brow pomades, there is a learning curve. Unless you’re a natural wiz at applying brow pomade (I definitely am not), it takes some time to use a brow brush, filling in all the right angles, and defining your natural brow shape. The formula has a nice slip to it. It is not so soft that application is easily smudged but resistant and tacky enough to allow distinct, concentrated strokes and long-lasting results. It is smooth enough to apply without difficulty. I find EcoBrow’s formula to be a drier, harder texture. I like the Pomade’s lightweight, hydrating texture as it’s also easier to work and also long-lasting.
Aside from my ever-evolving pomade-applying skills (I need more work), I only had a issue with the brow brush that comes with the product. While a beautiful brush to display, the angled brow brush has bristles that are a bit too long and floppy for more controlled, exact application. Instead, I prefer using my Bdellium 760 and EcoBrow brushes, both of which have shorter, stiffer brush hairs. Hopefully, Plume will eventually let you forgo receiving their brow brush with future Pomade purchases, or perhaps they’ll update the brush design.
You can also pick up a lot of brow pigment in one swipe, so I like to dab product on the back of my hand before applying to my brows. As for the lasting quality, I didn’t have any experience any smudging or fading, the formula remained nourishing and pigmented even through normal 8-hour days. In contrast, I’ve found EcoBrow to feel more drying during a whole day of wear.
Plume’s new packaging is nothing sort of gorgeous. The Pomade is packaged in a beautiful clear jar, covered by a mirrored lid, and it contains 4g/0.14oz of product, which is quite a good amount of a brow product. I’m really a fan of the Nourish & Define Brow Pomade packaging as opposed to the normal, round jars because the shape feels more significant in my hand, it’s large enough to easily grasp, while light and tiny enough to tote around. It seems like the jar is plastic, which doesn’t seem as eco-friendly as other options, yet the shape, weight, and size of the jar is a plus for me.
While I don’t think I’ve been using this pomade long enough to see any change in the growth of my brows, I was really pleased with this product. I like the natural color and definition it adds, while the formula assures me that my daily brow makeup isn’t further damaging my brow hairs, but adding to it.
If you’re looking for a truly effective, pigmented, natural brow pomade that has added benefits (such as skin/hair nourishment and ingredients that promote brow growth), you should definitely give this product a try! It’s one of the many few natural brow pomades on the market that would make switching over from mainstream brow products a no-brainer.
