Better Basic Intimates and Underwear from Organic Basics

I’ve been on the search for sustainably made underwear products that are comfortable, well-made, and fit petite bodies–specifically, bras for smaller chests. Organic Basics is a Copenhagen-based luxury brand that has been around for a while, specializing in underwear, everyday basics, and activewear utilizing sustainable methods and materials. Their simplistic styles and innovative approach to high-quality, durable basics is well known in the eco-fashion industry and has made them a coveted brand for me to try.

It was quite surprising when I actually started searching for more sustainably, ethically-made bras that few brands actually sell bras in sizes for women with smaller chests. Organic Basics was one of the few brands I discovered that sells undergarments in a wide range of sizes, from XS to XXL. Not to mention a brand that isn’t afraid to share any and all details about their products.

Organic Basics works with trusted, certified factory partners that have the same sustainable vision as the brand, including ethical work practices, and use of eco-friendly materials and technology. The brand lists all the factories they partner with and details about each factory, such as the factory’s status as a family run business, number of years in business, production capacity, manufacturing specialties, and more on the website. I like the transparency of knowing where and how clothes are made, with the peace of mind of a better manufacturing process.

Organic Basics selects fabrics based on its environmental footprint and lifetime durability, only using natural, renewable, recycled, biodegradable, and/or low-impact textiles. The brand makes products for men and women ranging from underwear, socks, leggings, t-shirts/tops, and bras.

Since I was having difficulty deciding what individual products I wanted to try, I figured it was a good time to purchase one of Organic Basics’ starter packs, that feature a bra and a set of 2 panties. The starter packs (different ones feature socks, undershirts, and more) not only save you money, but it’s a great way to buy in bulk for the future. I saved about $23 in choosing the Starter Pack over purchasing the bralette and briefs separately.

In my case, I was really interested in trying the brand’s Lite collection, products made from TENCEL Lyocell, an eco-friendly wood pulp that’s been refined into a soft sustainable thread. The material is known for feeling silky and has a smoother touch than cotton. I decided to try the Starter Pack Lite Bralette ($92 each), which also includes a 2-pack of Lite Briefs. The fabric feels so high quality and substantial, something I know will last a while.

The brand’s bra selection offers only simple bras in bralette or sport-bras-styles, so not styles that are supportive or heavy-duty bra (these don’t have underwire).

I fell in love with the Lite Bralette style in Dusty Rose, a modern and fun take on a simple bralette. Besides from the pretty design, this bra fits me really well, it’s super comfortable while also quite supportive. I really like the adjustable straps and clasp-back for an easy and accurate fit, and the elastic hem is also a nice touch in providing comfort. The Lite fabric is divine! It is lightweight, super soft, yet has a silky-elastic feel to it, which adds to the nice, stretchy and supportive texture.

This bra is so breathable and comfortable to wear all-day and it fits like a glove, I honestly forget that I’m wearing it most of the time. For my needs, the coverage and support is there, and I never feel like my straps are falling down or anything feels too loose. The clasp-back doesn’t pinch or stick into my back, there is no irritation, it honestly is so comfortable I do not feel it. The sizing is just perfect. One thing to note is that there are seams that run across the front of the bra, which can sometimes show under shirts, sort of emphasizing the nipples area. I don’t think it’s too noticeable, but definitely something that I consider when I wear this bra out of the house. My experience with this bra has been phenomenal–the fabric, the fit, and the support is top notch and I find myself wanting to wear it over and over. Lite Bralette, $60 each.

I really wanted to try the Lite Thong bottoms, but the Starter Pack I decided on only featured the Lite Bikini Briefs (I also got it in Dusty Rose). Regardless, the Lite Bikini Briefs also delighted me because the quality of the material is just so good. The Lite material makes these Briefs feel super silky and smooth, and very supportive around the bum. The thicker waistband makes for a snug fit, and I love how non-restrictive and lightweight they feel. I definitely enjoy wearing these more when I’m not wearing any clothes that would show the outline of the briefs (like tight pants), but these are superiorly comfy and so feather-light and breathable, that I don’t mind them. It feels as comfy as wearing silk panties, but much more durable! Lite Briefs, $55 for a 2-pack.

I wasn’t expecting to love Organic Basics as much as I ended up. I admire the sustainable and ethical practices that go into each and every Organic Basics piece, and that the brand is very intentional about their practices and transparency with customers. I was starting to give up on finding quality, sustainable undergarments that fit well, but Organic Basics has made me a very happy customer.
