I’m going to sound like the most unhip beauty blogger ever but I don’t get contouring. I’m just not into it. I love a good bronzer but even then, I like my face looking sunkissed, evened, and glowing but always a bit more subtle. Though the desire for a paparazzi-ready, ultra defined face is not on the top of my daily makeup list, there is one natural contouring kit that has made me reconsider the trend. Tata Harper’s Luminous Definition: How to Contour and Highlight Kit* features 100% natural, high-quality cream products that provide a natural-looking sculpted and sun-kissed face.
Packaged in a signature green Tata Harper gift box, the Luminous Definition kit includes a highlighter (Very Illuminating), a bronzer (Very Bronzing), a nice visual guide with simple instructions on how to contour, and some samples of Tata’s bestselling skincare products. For now, this kit is exclusive to Tata Harper, while Very Illuminating and Very Bronzing can be purchased separately online at Sephora.
The Luminous Definition kit is a really nice introduction for those who are new to contouring or for those who are looking for a high-quality natural cream bronzer and highlighter. Very Illuminating and Very Bronzing are great additions to anyone’s makeup collection.
Both products are very easy to apply and blend, are lightweight in texture and have great pigmentation. I like how the products beautifully accentuate my natural features rather than create an extremely dramatic effect and unlike other color cosmetics do not irritate my skin.
“Our bronzing and highlighting formulas contain neuropeptide technology to promote a smooth, plump look while pure natural pigments and pearlescents deliver slenderizing and brightening effects.”
Following Tata Harper’s contour kit instructions, the first step in the contouring process is to apply the highlighter to all high-points of the face: on the forehead, cheekbones, nose-bridge, chin, and cupid’s bow. Next, apply bronzer to along the cheeks and sides of the forehead. Blend everything outward for a natural and glowing look. The cream formulas can easily be applied using fingers or with makeup brushes and I usually apply after other face products (like foundation or tinted moisturizer).
Compared to other cream highlights, Very Illuminating leans more towards a white/silver tone. While I initially thought it was too light for my use, I found that the highlight color is actually very suitable for it’s illuminating purpose and really brightens up the skin. I think it’s a subtle highlight that will look nice on any skintone. One only needs a bit of this product for beautiful, glowing skin. It is similar in texture and formula to RMS Beauty’s Living Luminizer however, I think the Living Luminizer is a bit more sheer and silver-toned.
Very Bronzing appears to be quite dark in the jar but upon application, blends out to a naturally tan shade that is buildable in color. Normally, my fair skin makes me cautious about using bronzers but I never have to worry when I use Very Bronzing. The product blends into skin providing a naturally defining effect but it is also light in pigmentation.
I usually find that cream cosmetics fade on my skin throughout the day but what I like about the products from Tata Harper is that the pigmentation is long-lasting and the formulas are gentle on my skin. Adding a setting powder on top of these products helps the formulas last longer as well. Usually, the more products I apply on my face leaves my dry, sensitive skin more irritated and parched. I was happily surprised that Tata Harper’s cosmetics products not stayed fresh throughout the day but also left my skin feeling healthy.
The combination of Very Illuminating and Very Bronzing leaves me looking polished and glowing. For a full-faced Tata Harper look, the Volumizing Lip and Cheek Tints* in Very Nice (a matte, pink-nude) and Very Charming (a bold, petal pink) add the perfect amount of beautiful, natural color to lips and cheeks. (Samples of these Lip & Cheek Tints are also included in the Luminous Definition kit.)
For contour newbies like myself or for all-around beauty junkies, I think the Luminous Definition kit is a beautiful and easy-to-use set to own with products that enhance your natural features rather than supersede them.
For the value ($77 per kit), I think this exclusive contour kit is worth it for the full size, high quality products. Purchasing this kit saves you a few dollars and also lets you try some samples of Tata Harper’s cult favorite skincare and makeup products. I also like the transparency of Tata Harper’s Open Lab Program, which allows you to trace the origin of all the products you purchase from formulation to manufacturing.
