I want to let you in on a little secret about me that have many of my friends and fellow bloggers appalled: I don’t wear deodorant on a daily basis. The truth is, I don’t really sweat that much and when I do sweat, I don’t tend to have heavy body odor. You might not believe me or think I’m crazy, but you can ask my family members! (Or want to sniff me after a sweaty gym session?) Everyone’s body chemistry is different, so everyone’s natural sweat patterns and quantity are different. But even though I don’t wear deodorant on a daily basis, it doesn’t mean I don’t ever wear it. I still like feeling fresh and sweat-free after exercising or when I know I’ll be spending time outside in hot, humid weather.
The scary thing about traditional deodorants is that they are said to contain aluminum compounds that have been linked to breast cancer. Though it’s not totally proven for sure, why would you want to put your body at that risk? I understand being cautious about not looking sweaty and pit-stained, but I think it’s crazy to what limits some people will go to try put an end to sweating. I once overheard a girl in my yoga class say she was thinking about getting a surgery that would plug up her sweat glands! What? Sweating is a natural and necessary bodily function. Without it, your body would not be operating properly. Sweating naturally cools down your body’s internal temperature and cleanses your pores of dirt and toxins keeping your skin clean and your body healthy. Nevertheless, we all want to feel comfortable with our own pits, so why not do it the natural way?
Here are three amazing natural deodorants I’ve tried that I think should be in every green beauty lover’s closet. Plus, I think organic and natural deodorants actually smell better than conventional deodorants! (I always hated that nasty, baby powder scent! Brings me back to the days of those horrid middle school locker rooms…) If you don’t think my non-deodorant-wearing-pits can pick out the best natural deodorants, you are wrong. I tested these deodorants through it all for you, dear readers: full work days, running, hot yoga, regular yoga, tennis, biking, sunbathing, nasty humid New York subways, and dancing till dawn–these are the natural deodorants I’ve come to love:
1. Meow Meow Tweet Deodorant Cream ($13, 2.4 oz)- I’m a big fan of Brooklyn-based, MMT’s handcrafted, natural skincare products and their popular Deodorant Cream does not disappoint. Even as a non-frequent deodorant wearer, this is one of my top, go-to natural deodorants. This emollient cream is gentle and applies so smoothly, you might mistaken this pleasantly fragrant deodorant as a body cream. The jojoba oil and shea butter add soothing and moisturizing qualities to the light cream and overall, the deodorant lasts all day. The solid texture of this Deodorant Cream is still strong enough to absorb sweat and odor without irritating skin. Organic coconut oil and baking soda provide antibacterial properties and a sweet, lasting aroma, while arrowroot powder and kaolin clay naturally and gently absorb sweat. I am constantly amazed at the simple ingredient lineup of this deodorant and how effective they are. This product just goes to show that quality, natural ingredients can produce great results. This deodorant is gentle enough that I sometimes like wearing this just because I want to feel drier and smell fresh, even if I know I won’t be doing anything too sweat-inducing. This product is housed in a cute baby-food-style glass jar and features a biodegradable label. I absolutely love this cream in the Lavender scent but the Tea Tree is also a pleasant option. This gentle, soft, effective Deodorant Cream will keep your pits happy all day. (Product pictured is a 1 oz sample size.) Buy it here: Meow Meow Tweet or Pemberley Jones
Ingredients: virgin coconut oil, jojoba oil, shea butter, arrowroot powder, baking soda (naturally mined), kaolin clay, tea tree OR lavender essential oil *organic ingredient
2. GreenBody Deodorant Stick ($9, 2.5 oz)- I’ll admit, I’m lazy. And when it comes to natural deodorants, not many are packaged in convenient, conventional deodorant stick-form and usually, that makes me less inclined to try one. If you’re easing the transition from conventional deodorant stick to natural deodorant, GreenBody is all you could ever ask for. I love using this deodorant not only because of the simple, twist-up stick form, but because the formula is soothing, fresh-smelling and absorbs easily. This deodorant is definitely the lightest in texture that I’ve tested, the cream formula instantly melts into the skin like a smooth, body oil but it lingers for effective protection like a good deodorant should. For those who sweat lightly like me, this is perfect: it keeps me dry and fresh all day without feeling heavy or thick. The aromatic properties of the essential oil ingredients are therapeutic and refreshing, not to mention prevents any odor from escaping. All GreenBody deodorants are handcrafted, PETA-certified cruelty-free and vegan, use GMO-free corn starch, and based on aromatherapy-inspired, pure essential oil blends. The six scents to choose from; clarity, balanced, athletic, gentle, classic, advanced formula–each have different aromatherapeutic properties according to the specific essential oil blends used. I really enjoy using the “Balanced” scent as it combines fragrant rosemary, tea tree and sweet, citrusy notes of clary sage, orange, lemon, frankincense and sandalwood essential oils that keep me smelling fresh all day. This deodorant is another product that lasts all day for me. Buy it here: GreenBody
Balanced Scent Ingredients: Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch*, Sodium Bicarbonate, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Essential Oils of: Salvia Sclarea (Clary Sage), Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Peel, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf, Boswellia Carterii (Frankincense), Santalum Album (Sandalwood). *GMO Free
3. Schmidt’s Deodorant ($9, 0.2 oz)- Maybe you’re feeling a little more adventurous on this natural deodorant journey or you’re just looking for a heavy-duty cure-all for sweaty, smelly pits. I think cult-favorite, Schmidt’s Deodorant might be for you. This luxurious, all-natural deodorant is long-lasting and tough enough to combat any sweaty situation. I initially did not like this deodorant’s texture, but grew to like the unique, grainy feel. While it was a bit more difficult for me to rub this into my armpits, I noticed that the heavier texture and rough grains provided lasting, all-day wear and effective, resilient prevention against wetness and odor. Provided with every jar of Schmidt’s is a small, plastic spatula to pick up product and distribute onto fingertips. This helps to effectively spread the tougher texture of the deodorant across armpits and accurately sift out the right amount to use. A little goes a long way, this deodorant effectively absorbed sweat in high temperatures and hot weather, and kept me feeling clean for hours. Every deodorant is formulated free of aluminum, propylene glycol, parabens, and phthalates and comes housed in a glass jar. I love the variety of captivating scents to choose from (there is also an unscented option), each one is strong enough to block odor and keeps me smelling fresh and sweet-smelling for hours. The scents are also nice for men or women. My favorites were the bright, summery-sweet Bergamot + Lime scent and the fresh, floral Lavender + Sage scent. Endorsed by countless green beauty gurus and celebrities alike, Schmidt’s Deodorant is a great, heavy-duty natural deodorant at a fabulous price. Buy it here: Schmidt’s Deodorant or Eco Diva Beauty
Bergamot + Lime Scent Ingredients: Butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), Maranta arundinacea (arrowroot) powder, Theobroma cacao (cocoa) seed butter, Citrus bergamia (bergamot) essential oil, Citrus aurantifolia (lime) essential oil, Tocopherol (vitamin E), Humulus lupulus (hop) extract

Awesome post! Each of the deos that you list work for me too (and boy, do I need a heavy-hitter, no need to elaborate!) What’d scary is that Katie just posted her concealer picks and I had all mine lined up for a photo before I saw her post. And I’ve got a pile of deos on my bedroom floor waiting for a photo and now this… it’s getting weird, I tell you! All I can say is: maybe something happened during our session with Alexandra and we all got magically linked. Hehe (ok, totally freaky, right?) Xo
Kasey Michelle
So crazy! Maybe we now have blogger-ESP or something… 😉 So glad these are these deos all work for you too, Sarita! Thanks for reading.

Uh you don’t sweat that much? Ok, where are you reeeallly from? 😉 great review Kasey! I’ve yet to crack open either one of my jars from MMT or Schmidt’s as I’m still using up soapwalla but am v excited on trying Schmidt’s if it absorbs moisture as well as you say it does! My boyf has tried all three and is liking Schmidt’s Bergamot + Lime most (decided it was best to get us one each when I ordered from MMT and Schmidt’s!) Here’s to happy stink-free days! Xx
Kasey Michelle
I’m actually from Mars…haha
You are well prepared with the deodorants, girl! How do you like using Soapwalla? I’ve heard a lot of people love that brand as well.
I think you’ll love MMT and Schmidt’s. Let me know how it goes! Thanks for reading, Nic! 🙂

I knew you were from another planet! 😉 I really like Soapwalla, it’s the first natural deo I bought and it blew me away so quickly that I wrote a pretty raving review about ! So if you wanna know exactly what I thought I’d check that out 🙂 The only thing is that I tend to sweat a bit more with it which is why I’m really keen on trying Schmidt’s as I’ve heard several people saying it’s good at absorbing moisture. I will definitely be a good test human for that! Xx
Kasey Michelle
Definitely going to check out your review! I’m sure some of my smellier friends might like Soapwalla as well! 😉 Interested to hear your thoughts about Schmidt’s when you try it out! 🙂
caprinic
Aw thanks Kasey! You’ll definitely get a more in-depth answer from it 🙂 I will absolutely keep you posted on Schmidt’s, am so eager to try it but Soapwalla is taking forever to run out! Good thing I suppose what with being a poor student and all haha! Xx

HIGH FIVE, I don’t wear deodorant too! Which is really amazing considering I’m come from the hottest place on the planet (ok not really, but it’s Singapore). I only started wearing one when I was in Japan and did it to be courteous… LOL. I do sweat but i guess I don’t smell a lot so I think I can get away with it. That said, I tested out the Soapwalla one which I bought for my husband, and while it didn’t stop me from perspiring, there was certainly no unpleasant scent coming from my pits! xo
Kasey Michelle
Woohoo! I knew there were more of us out there! Non-deodorant solidarity 😉 Wow, I’ve heard so many stories about how hot and humid Singapore can be, must be in your blood to not get so sweaty and smelly! And I totally get what you mean about using deodorant just to be courteous, I’ve definitely had those moments as well! Haha. Hmm so many positive things have been said about Soapwalla, I’m kind of curious about it, if not to recommend to my sweatier, smellier friends 😛

Just added your review to our press page! Thank you!

Thanks, Kristin! I’ve loved using my Green Body Deo! 🙂

I love Schmidts but I can’t get my husband to wear it because it smells to “girly”. We just got him a brand called Uncle Jack’s and he loves it! They sell on amazon
Kasey
Sorry for seeing your comment so late, Jamie! So interesting you say that your husband thinks Schmidt’s smells “girly” as I personally think their scents are more masculine! But I guess everyone has different scent preferences 😉 I have not heard of Uncle Jack’s but I’m glad your husband has found a natural deo that he loves 🙂
