A lot of green beauty brands have jumped into action during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many brands are giving back to healthcare workers whether through products, donations, or other charitable initiatives, and others are simply rolling out special programs and products for those on the front lines and the rest of us at home.
Here’s a roundup of what green beauty brands are doing:
Skincando: I’ve been a fan of this local-DC brand and founder, Sara Damelio for some time now. (Check out my founder interview from a while back.) Skincando not only has amazing handmade, organic skincare, the brand has also always integrated charitable initiatives with product sales. Their famous multi-tasking skin salve, Combat Ready Balm have been donated to U.S. troops in war zones since 2005. Now the brand has created, “Operation Coronavirus Dry Skin Relief,” asking shoppers to donate jars of Combat-Ready Balm at 50% off to send relief to nurses and doctors on the frontlines. All donations will be shipped directly to the healthcare workers and hospitals.
Follain: The green beauty shop is dropping off lotion and other products to hospitals across the Boston metro area to give back to front line healthcare workers in their home city. If you’re not in Boston, front line health professionals throughout the U.S. can take advantage of 15% discount at Follain.com, just email covidsupport@shopfollain.com and include a photo of your hospital ID.
Rahua: The natural hair and skincare brand Rahua has donated its body care products to leading New York-metro area hospitals to support and thank front line healthcare workers. The brand is also doing various promotions such as free shipping and discounts for all online store customers.
Tata Harper: Tata Harper announced they are donating 500 bottles of the brand’s newly crafted hand sanitizers and Reparative and Rebuilding Moisturizer to medical workers fighting COVID-19 in Los Angeles and New York City. The luxe natural skincare brand will be making their new hand sanitizer available to customers online through their website in mid-April.
MCMC Fragrances: Founded by two sisters in Brooklyn, this brand is known for their lovely, small-batch line of fragrances that draw inspiration from natural perfumery and aromatherapy. MCMC Fragrances launched a non-toxic and cruelty-free Hand Sanitizing Spray, that contains skin-softening glycerin from vegetable sources. It comes in two luxurious scents: Yuzu/Vetiver and Geranium/Jasmine. At $15 for 2fl oz, this is quite a luxe hand sanitizer that will no doubt bring a bit of excitement to quarantine life. *This product is currently out of stock until April 15.
Weleda: Give your hands (and the hands of your loved ones) the much needed nourishment they deserve, with 15% off all Weleda hand creams.
Pelacase: This sustainably-made cell phone case company is doing a buy one, get one free deal on all phone cases so that you can “wear one, and wash one” during the pandemic.
sundays salon: The chic NYC-based nail salon, is offering salon gift cards at 20% off using the code, “Sundays20” or 25% off nail polishes using code, “Spring25”. Like many nail salons around the country, sundays announced they’ve had to close their doors due to the pandemic and had to send home more than 50 sundays nail specialists. 100% all gift card sales, in addition to any money raised from the salon’s GoFundMe page, will be donated to support the salon’s workers.
RMS Beauty: In March, RMS Beauty donated 50% of the sales from their Wild With Desire lipstick in the shade “Monterey” to Coastal Pet Rescue to help animals being surrendered during the pandemic.
Pai Skincare: The British skincare company launched the Action Spirit Hand Sanitizer for UK customers. These products give back to British frontline workers and others in need and the deal is limited to one per person due to raw material shortages. “Buy One, Gift One – your order means an NHS frontline worker, care home, homeless charity or beauty bank will receive a donation of Acton Spirit too.” Pai encourages customers, “Stay safe and keep others safe by staying home if you can.”
