Julie Clark, founder of Province Apothecary is a holistic esthetician and aromatherapist who created her skincare line after many years of battling allergies and eczema. At her studio in Toronto, Julie not only sells her popular skincare products, but she also offers skincare consultations and treatments such as an organic aromatherapy facial, brow/lash treatment, and custom perfume blending.
For Julie, natural beauty goes beyond simply organic and wild-crafted ingredients; natural beauty means a pledge to helping clients feel good in their own skin.
I’d planned to meet up with Julie at her studio and shop on my last minute trip to Toronto a few months ago. Somehow both our schedules didn’t match up while I was in the city so I never got to chat with Julie in-person nor experience what local Toronto blogger Sonja (Life in Blush) described to me as “the best facials in the city”. Nevertheless, I was very excited when Julie still offered to send me a few products to try out. I’m still dreaming of visiting the Province Apothecary studio and meeting with Julie someday to pick her genius brain on natural skincare, ingredients and aromatherapy. And to finally experience her amazing skincare treatments! It shall happen one day!

Moisturizer Cleanser + Make Up Remover: Honestly, you should know by now that I’m a sucker for multi-purpose products. The Moisturizer Cleanser + Make Up Remover is the perfect facial cleansing oil that is soothing and gentle yet powerfully removes any makeup left on your face. The formula is stellar, including organic jojoba oil to deeply cleanse and hydrate skin as well as sunflower seed oil, avocado oil, and evening primrose oil to moisturize and restore balance to the skin. Lavender also heals blemishes and works as a restorative while frankincense tones the skin. The texture of the Moisturizer Cleanser + Make Up Remover is not greasy or watery, rather it has the perfect slip to spread across skin and thick enough to sink into skin. I like that this product doesn’t further dry out my sensitive skin but soothes it and keeps it feeling moisturized while also deeply cleansed. The smell is calming and lightly herbal but very pleasant. I’d definitely order more of this product in a pinch. From $16 for 30ml.

Invigorating + Balancing Toner: Simplistic yet super effective. This refreshing toner not only supremely soothes my skin, I can definitely feel the soothing and healing effects of Willow Bark, Rose water, Cleary Sage and Geranium. The relaxing scents of Lavender and Calendula also providing hydrating, healing effects. This Toner has actually helped my skin whenever I have blemishes or start to feel my skin acting up. I like that it refreshes and hydrates my skin but I also enjoy the fact that this doubles an extra healing elixir when my skin needs to be on the mend. From $14 for 30ml.
Ingredients: Aqua, Rose flower water*, Witch Hazel Water*, Lavender flower water*, Calendula flower extract*, and therapeutic essential oils of: Geranium Oil*, Clary Sage Oil*, Frankincense Oil and Rose Otto. *Certified organic ingredient
Rejuvenating + Hydrating Face Serum: Chock-full-of deliciously nutritious ingredients like apricot kernel oil, pumpkin seed oil, jojoba seed oil, avocado oil, and sea buckthorn oil, I was most excited about this Face Serum. Supremely hydrating and lovely smelling, the Face Serum goes on smooth and when adding the advised amount of water to the product, it quickly and deeply sinks into skin. {Province Apothecary advises adding equal parts water to their oil-based products to allow for oils to spread and absorb into the skin and also for the water and oils to penetrate the skin leading to greater hydration.} Though this is a morning and night Face Serum, I especially enjoy using this at night before I go to bed because it keeps my face moisturized and so smooth all night long. It’s a deeply hydrating product that is great for dry or sensitive skin. The Rejuvenating + Hydrating Face Serum also has noticeably evened out my skintone overall and is so nourishing, I’m always amazed at how glowing and youthful my face looks. Definitely a worthwhile facial oil in my book. From $26 for 7ml.
Regenerating + Stimulating Exfoliator:So good, I’d eat it! Okay, maybe not really but the soothing, softening effects of the oatmeal, flax seeds, green tea and lavender in this Exfoliator is enough to make my skin super happy and my mouth start to water. I love using this product because it gently scrubs my face and never dries out my skin. The Exfoliator coats my skin with nourishing, hydrating ingredients keeping my face soft and glowing. I have to hold myself back from exfoliating too often with this product but it gives amazing results when used as instructed: every 3 days, and can be mixed with water or other ingredients. I’ve only mixed this dry formula with water so far but I can so that this would feel amazing (and be very beneficial) mixed with honey or yogurt. From $12 for 30ml.
Detoxifying + Clarifying Mask: I did not like the strong smell of this mask but the formula worked really nicely with my sensitive skin, usually easily irritated by clay-based masks like this one. When activated with water, this Mask is nice, thick and malleable to spread. I like how it is cool and soothing when applied to my face. The formula hardens after a couple minutes and while this would usually irritate my face, I do not find the Detoxifying + Clarifying Mask to be drying or harsh on my sensitive skin. My face always feels so refreshed and rejuvenated after using this Mask. This product always makes my skin feel like it’s had a serious deep clean yet is so gentle. I always notice that my face is super smooth and instantly rid of impurities like blackheads and redness. This Mask is a keeper though I’m still not so fond of the scent. Perhaps, mixing in some honey might make it more bearable for my sensitive nose? From $18 for 30ml.
