There’s something to be said about simple skincare products with high-quality, no-fuss formulations. I find myself more drawn to organic and natural products without fancy promises or death-defying qualities, rather I feel as though the products I’m loving now are ones that bring me back to the basics of effective skincare. Province Apothecary is an organic skincare company based in Toronto known for their sought-after handmade products devoted to organic, wildcrafted ingredients.
I’m finally taking a break for vacation this week (woohoo!) but Audrey from Vain Pursuits joins us today for a special guest post. (woohoo again!) Vain Pursuits is a Montreal-based natural skincare company that provides custom-made products tailored to your specific skincare needs. Ever wonder what it’s like to work for a natural skincare company? Audrey, the head of Vain Pursuits’ Customer Service & Marketing, is going to give us a special peek behind the scenes:
For many of us, finding the perfect natural skincare can feel like a full-time job. And for a select few of us, it actually is! My name’s Audrey, and for the last year, I’ve been working at an organic skincare line in Montreal, Canada called Vain Pursuits. Every day, we make it our goal to fix customer’s skin issues so they can finally quit the tedious trial-and-error process for good. Our company’s philosophy is all about “skincare made for you.” That’s not just some cutesy promise – we actually create unique skincare formulas for each and every customer! All our ingredients are organic, cruelty-free, and locally sourced whenever possible.
Nothing gets me more excited than when I discover international skincare brands with pure and natural ingredients, that work for my sensitive skin. The pain only sets in when I realize most of these amazing international products are difficult to find or just not available in the U.S. More and more, popular international brands are branching out to the States and I couldn’t have been more excited when U.K. brand,Odylique announced in October they’d launched their new web store for U.S. and Canada.
Odylique is a British skincare brand based on effective formulations containing only organic herbs, plant oils, and natural active ingredients suitable for even the most sensitive skintypes. There are no synthetic chemicals nor artificial fragrances added to Odylique products furthering the brand’s commitment to Soil Association-certified standards and also providing the very best for sensitive skin. Formerly called Essential Care, the brand was founded by a mother-daughter duo and all products are handmade locally in Suffolk, UK. With over 30 years of providing effective, beloved products in Europe, Odylique’s newest venture into North America is generating lots of buzz and even more fans across the pond.
From what I can tell, European organic and natural skincare brands are really on a roll with beautiful innovative, effective products. I love supporting American brands and makers, but I also really love discovering products from other countries and am even more excited when international brands expand to the U.S. One such brand is DN-UNIK, which features beautiful skincare products made in France, formulated with natural, plant-based ingredients that are also Ecocert and Cosmebio certified organic.
I immediately admired the clean, chic packaging of DN-UNIK products and that the brand aims to provide organic skincare formulas that focus on anti-aging results. DN-UNIK recently launched online in the U.S. and kindly asked me if I’d like to give their products a try. Currently, you can purchase a full collection of DN-UNIK products at The Choosy Chick and at Abe’s Market.Get 20% off all DN-UNIK products at The Choosy Chick with my special code: PLEINMEETSUNIK until 12/31/2014.
Get ready green beauty lovers, there’s a new chick in town: The Choosy Chick, that is! This new online store is yet another lovely addition to the internet’s finest purveyors of green beauty goods. The Choosy Chick features a carefully curated catalog of well-known organic and natural skincare, hair, and beauty brandsmany enthusiasts already trust like Josh Rosebrook, Badger, Acure, Honeybee Gardens, and MUN. What really caught my eye is that the store focuses on intriguing and perhaps lesser-known brands with a special emphasis on fun and healthy products for children. It’s great to see a store that selects great overall brands for everyone in the family!
I chatted with The Choosy Chick’s founder and very cool Chick-in-charge, Margot White about her thoughts on green beauty, the story behind her business, and more. Read on to learn more about this inspiring entrepreneur, teacher and mother. After the jump, enter the giveaway to win an amazing sampler bag from The Choosy Chick!
It’s been interesting to see that as I’ve been blogging about green beauty, I’ve had a natural gravitation towards pure and effective skincare brands. Though I’m still crazy about makeup, I’ve realized that a solid skincare routine is the basis for healthier skin, happier attitude and overall well-being. Green beauty has led me to find some of the best natural skincare brands that provide high-quality, gentle, and healthy products that really do work.
Kaia Naturalsis a boutique natural skincare brand based in Toronto. The brand is known for featuring sustainable, biodegradable bamboo as a main ingredient in their products notably, their Juicy Bamboo Cleansing Cloths. (I’ve been eyeing these ever since I said a bitter goodbye to my convenient but seriously irritating Neutrogena makeup wipes.) All Kaia Naturals products are made in small batches, are paraben-free, gluten-free, cruelty-free, and contain biodegradable ingredients.
The brand was founded based on “the need for multi-functional products that are naturally derived, environmentally friendly and simple to use. By harnessing the power of bamboo, they create custom-crafted products that nourish the skin and respect the environment.”
(Products listed clockwise, click product names for links. All products purchased by me or received as a sample with orders I purchased myself unless otherwise indicated.)
Here’s another roundup of the products I’ve been trying out (a small selection among many!) I’ve definitely been on the hunt for a new cleanser and daily moisturizer since I’ve finished and found my staples: Pai Skincare Cleanser and Pai Geranium & Thistle Day Cream. Plus, I’m always curious to try brands that are new to me. Here’s how this volume went:
I was first introduced to CV Skinlabs at A Night for Green Beauty last year when the event was held in New York City. I briefly chatted with Britta Aragon, founder and creator of CV Skinlabs and was immediately intrigued with her brand’s story and the product samples she gave me. Britta’s experience caring for her father during his eight-year cancer battle and being a survivor of Hodgkin’s disease herself, culminated in her passion for promoting safe personal-care products. She created CV Skinlabs, which stands for “Cinco Vidas”, to offer products with gentle, effective, and safe formulas especially for individuals suffering with sensitive skin, chemical sensitivities, or skin conditions. Just reading the endless amounts of testimonials from everyone ranging from skincare professionals, celebrities to the average consumer, you can really tell that CV Skinlabs’ beneficial and effective healing formulas have stirred up some real attention.
When I see neroli oil (Citrus aurantium) listed as an essential oil ingredient in any product or mixture, I immediately think of bright flowers and exotic, sweet, calming fragrances. Doubly alluring as the oil itself is the unique way neroli oil is produced: acquired from bitter orange tree blossoms through water distillation. Pale yellow in color and similar in scent to bergamot and lime, neroli essential oil is used in facial toners for its antibacterialand emollientproperties. Toners and facial products with neroli oil have also been used to fade acne scars, cleanse skin and improve skintone. Neroli oil’s distinct aroma and therapeutic effects have also been used as an anti-depressant and aromatherapy tool to calm anxiety.
