Not Your Basic White T-Shirt: Organic Basics SilverTech Tee Regulates Body Temperature & Reduces Laundry

Organic Basics always delivers on stylish and functional sustainable undergarments. In addition to a commitment to transparent and environmentally friendly practices, the brand encourages consumers to be more conscious of buying habits and to prioritize quality over quantity. I admire Organic Basics not only for their clothing, but also for the innovative design methods and initiatives that help progress sustainable fashion.

For those who like in-depth data and facts (myself included), Organic Basics includes an “Impact Index” that calculates the environmental footprint of each garment compared to traditional fashion industry practices. These calculations measure waste, chemicals, energy, emissions, and water across the brand’s entire supply chain—from raw material production, to textile manufacturing—through to the consumer phase and shows environmental savings when better practices are used.

The Impact Index really puts into perspective the gains of purchasing environmentally-friendly clothing that are made to last and to adopt practices that reduce environmental impact. Organic Basics works only with certified organic, recycled and low-impact materials and trusted, certified European factory partners.

This is why I was very intrigued by the SilverTech Tee, which is designed to be worn over and over again, but doesn’t need to be washed frequently. Organic Basics describes it as an “odorless crewneck tee that stays fresh and keeps you feeling fresh,” with the added bonus that it “stays cooler when it’s hot and warmer when it’s colder.” Crazy, you say?

Packaging is simple, recyclable, and CO neutral worldwide shipping, yet always come damaged. Perhaps the long journey from Denmark.

The SilverTech collection features everyday clothing basics that are made with pure, sustainable sourced silver weaved into organic cotton, which allows clothes to stay fresh for longer and can be washed less. Plus SilverTech fabric helps to regulate heat to kep you feeling fresh too.

The SilverTech Tee is very soft and flexible, it looks like your average cotton fabric but feels just a tad silkier. It definitely holds its own, equally worn as a base layer or as a standalone t-shirt.

The tee is fitted but stretchy, while also comfortable and durable. For a more relaxed fit, I sized up to a Small (instead of my usual XS) and surprisingly the t-shirt does not engulf me nor look super bulky.

In my opinion, the silkier nature of SilverTech fabric also makes this look more appealing than the average white t-shirt and a bit more polished. This t-shirt is made of 82% organic cotton, 12% SilverTech yarn, 6% elastane, and is machine washable. The shirt includes GOTS certified organic cotton from the coast of the Aegean Sea, widely regarded as some of the most soft and durable cotton in the world. The GOTS standard also guarantees that the people that made this garment are in better conditions with living wages, no child labor, freely chosen employment and respect for the environment.

I go about a week or so without washing this t-shirt but honestly, you could go longer. I haven’t noticed much grime nor even bad odor after about a week’s wear. You know how even if your clothes don’t smell or “feel” dirty after wearing, and you just need to air them out to feel “fresh” again? I don’t often feel that way with this t-shirt, it oddly enough continues to feel just as soft and fresh as when I put it on. I still do air the shirt out after wearing it if I skip washing, due to my own natural tendencies. The jury is still out if this is the case for warmer weather wear, so I’ll be trying that in the months to come and will update.

As for seeing a difference in keeping you cool when it’s hot, or warm when it’s cold, I’m not sure if it’s as noticeable to me, but then again I’ve only had this t-shirt during cooler months. I do think the fabric feels substantial enough to keep me warm with layers in the winter.

Could this be the magic, sustainable basic t-shirt to beat out all t-shirts? If you’re measuring long-lasting quality, innovative sustainable fabric, and a piece that never goes out of style, then I’m going to have to say yes.
