Pure and Powerful: Josh Rosebrook Skin and Hair Care

Josh Rosebrook Skin and Hair Care 1

You know those brands that seem to have it all? Highly effective, pure formulas, sexy-simplistic design, and a cult following? I’d say that is what Josh Rosebrook’s hair and skin care products were for me. A gorgeous natural/organic brand I had heard so much about but realized I’d never experienced for myself. As my quest for cleaner and greener haircare evolved, I made known my curiosity in the shampoo and conditioner that everyone in the green beauty world seemed to be gushing over.

Josh Rosebrook’s popular eponymous skin and hair care brand grew out of the Los Angeles-based hair stylist’s desire to create a line of hair products that were high performing and effective while also using natural ingredients. Understanding the connection of hair and the biochemistry of the skin, Josh expanded his product line by creating natural and organic skin care products which also quickly became very popular among his clients and beyond.

Josh Rosebrook’s luxurious, effective, and pure products are handcrafted in small batches, use the highest quality all-natural and organic botanical extracts, and are also great high-end products for both men and women.

Josh himself reached out to me and kindly sent me his popular shampoo, conditioner and some of his lovely skincare products for me to try:

Josh Rosebrook Deep Nourishing Shampoo Conditioner 2

Deep Nourishing Shampoo and Conditioner- These hair products are no joke. The Deep Nourishing Shampoo really does live up to it’s name and formula. The shampoo is very moisturizing and provides a gentle but intense deep cleanse. It is a bit too strong for my normal routine of daily shampooing, and I do not think the formula is fitting for my very fine, very oily-prone hair type. Suffice to say, I love the sweet-citrus scent of this shampoo and when I do use it, my hair becomes uber soft and insanely shiny. Like, double-take-in-the-mirror-shiny. When used daily though, the shampoo makes my hair greasier than usual which I account to the formula being too strong for my hair type. I think those with thick, dry and/or frizzy hair would love this shampoo. As for the conditioner, it is also amazing. Same delicious citrus scent in a creamier formula that smooths the hair and leaves behind perfect, silky hair. [Note: The formulas have been changed a bit since I’ve tried them and this shampoo and condition duo are now known as the Nourish formula. Updated ingredient lists below.]

Josh let me know his newest shampoo formula, Balance is set to be released this week during A Night For Green Beauty (August 6th) and it is made for all hair textures with normal to oily scalp and hair conditions. The Balance formula specifically reduces oily build up and assists in offsetting oil production while providing volume and softens hair.  Sounds like this new formula was made just for my hair type! It will be great for those who don’t need the added moisture from the classic Nourish shampoo formula.

Josh Rosebrook’s hair products are definitely luxe and expertly formulated. Even though the price tag may seem pretty steep, a little bit of product does go a long way. But if you’re unsure of how it’ll perform on your hair or are hesitant about the dent in your wallet, I’d opt for trying out the travel-sized versions first (2 oz, about $8 each). $30 each 8oz full size (shown) at Josh RosebrookIntegrity Botanicals, or The Detox Market.

Josh Rosebrook Skin Care 2

Hydrating Accelerator- Holy marshmallow! I never knew I could feel so attached to a toner before, this product has easily become one of my favorites. Working as a triple threat, the Hydrating Accelerator tones, hydrates, and moisturizes skin all in one delicious formula. The scent of this product is addicting: sweet and fresh with lovely hints of marshmallow, vanilla, almond, and coconut. While I can’t stop spraying and sniffing this product, the formula also does not disappoint.

Featuring a wealth of skin-benefitting organic herbal infusions, vitamins, and organic oils, the Hydrating Accelerator leaves skin feeling extremely nourished and protected. This product is so gentle and soothing, it is great for prepping the skin before applying oils or serums, or for a nice refresh during the day. Each spritz sinks into skin quickly and you can easily feel how the product locks in moisture and nourishment, leaving a noticeable layer of suppleness on the skin. Now, Josh can you just make this scent into a perfume or room spray yet?! I’ll be the first one lined up for that! 😛 $20 2oz travel-size (shown), $32 4oz full size at Josh Rosebrook, Integrity Botanicals, or The Detox Market.

Hydrating Accelerator ingredients: Organic Vitamin Infused Aloe Water, Organic Oils of: Sunflower, Coconut, Grapeseed and Almond; Organic Herbal Infusions of: Bilberry, Slippery Elm, Calendula Flowers, Fennel Seed, Chickweed, Skullcap, Neem Leaf, Ginkgo Leaf, Hawthorn Berry, Green Tea, Marshmallow Root, St. John’s Wort and Alfalfa; Plant Vitamins E, A, C and B2; Organic Vanilla Bean Extract; Organic Essential Oils of: Ylang Ylang and proprietary blend of other organic essential oils.

Josh Rosebrook Cacao Antioxidant Mask

Cacao Mask Antioxidant Mask- This popular Josh Rosebrook mask is chock-full of antioxidants, organic herbal infusions and oils that aid in brightening and rejuvenating skin. I find this mask simply delectable with a potent, skin-benefitting formula that definitely puts other facial masks to shame. The thick, paste-like  texture and sweet-chocolate scent are addicting and I love that the Cacao Mask effectively detoxifies, tones, firms and exfoliates in one formula.

Cacao contains a high amount of flavanols, which are potent antioxidants that help activate blood circulation in the skin, therefore stimulating blood flow which in turn, help in delivering active nutrients to cells. To name a few among many, there are other powerhouse ingredients in this mask that collectively benefit all skin types:
Papaya exfoliates, brightens, plumps, firms, reduces fine lines.
Lavender to detoxify, heal, soften, protect skin, and reduce fine lines.
Witch Hazel to treat blemishes, soothe, tighten, purify skin, and balances oil.
Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10)  which boosts collagen, smoothes fine lines, firms, and supports cells.
Almond Oil to moisturize, firm, soften skin, and supports cells.
Comfrey to reduce redness, calm skin, refine texture, and creates balance.

My skin feels instantly refreshed after I use this mask and I definitely notice a brighter, glowy complexion. I love the invigorating feel of this mask and though you can feel the potent ingredients working immediately, at the same time this Cacao Mask is very gentle and soothing on my sensitive skin. This mask is like the literal chocolate icing on top of my skincare routine. I love this mask! It’s a delight to use and a skin-changing product. $24 0.5oz travel size (shown), $60 1.5 oz full size at Josh Rosebrook, Integrity Botanicals, or The Detox Market.

The new Balance Shampoo sounds like just my cuppa. I’ve got thick hair and a super sensitive and oily scalp, so I tend to avoid things with “Nourishing” on like the plague haha.

I’ve tried the travel-sized version of the nourishing shampoo and I love it. It’s one of the few natural shampoos that don’t dry out my hair. The conditioner is on my wishlist and I also have the travel-sized hydrating accelerator. I’m not a big fan of toners but I really love the smell and feel of this one.

I always see reviews on the cacao mask and it looks lovely as well. 🙂
